The Mechanism

How the Reset Actually Works

In a standard semi-automatic trigger group, the shooter must release the trigger manually to allow it to reset before the next shot. In a TAR system, the bolt carrier group mechanically forces the trigger forward into its reset position—even if the shooter hasn't released it.

The result is a faster, more consistent reset. One controlled function still occurs per round fired—the firearm remains semi-automatic in its fundamental operation.

Cycle Sequence

Step-by-Step: How It Cycles

Every round follows the same five-step sequence — mechanical, repeatable, and by design semi-automatic.

Trigger Pressed

The shooter presses the trigger. The sear releases the hammer, which strikes the firing pin and ignites the round.

BCG Travels Rearward

Propellant gas drives the bolt carrier group rearward. As it travels, it contacts the TAR trip component — the critical difference from a standard trigger.

Assisted Reset Occurs

The BCG's rearward travel forces the trigger forward into its reset position — even if the shooter hasn't released the trigger. This is the defining action of a TAR system.

BCG Returns Forward

The recoil spring drives the BCG forward, chambering the next round and resetting the hammer to the cocked position.

Next Round Ready

The firearm is ready for the next shot. The trigger must be pressed again to fire — one function, one round. Semi-automatic by design.
